Registered Users Benefits: Registration was a way to allow user to get a greater benefit by personalizing the system for your needs, tutoring the users in how to use it and allowing them to skip email verification when posting about or adding open mics. It also allows you to add personal open mics, venues only you can see. You can also pick and choose other registered users to share that information with. Keep in mind this is a very new system. Circumventing email verification for posting will be up in a few days. Other benefits will be here in the blink of an eye. Register

New Features as Of 02/14/08

#1: The Agency Database: This is a recreation and upgrade of the agency database that was once available at HeyLady. Unlike HeyLady you can parse through our database or the state license database. All the screening functions are built in. Visit

#2: The Festival Database: The festival database is a database of festivals and contests. It also ties in with the casting call database. That casting call database uses the information in the festival database to tell you, at a glance, which festivals started taking submissions this month, and which stopped. Visit

#3: The Casting Call Database: In addition to all that the casting call database also makes it simple to enter job opportunities for comedians, comic actors, comedy writers and musicians. All you need is an expiration date, a title and a description. Visit

#4: 25 Additional Articles: Twenty-five additional articles have been added to the article database with this update. Those articles include an eight page in depth analysis that takes quotes from the greatest comics of our time and weaves them into a story that shows what those top one hundred comics would say about the ins and outs of stand-up comedy. That’s just one of the articles, there are twenty-four others, including interviews with actors on extra work, a syndicated humor columnist focusing on syndication and an interview with Kerry Arnold Stephens that uses the Coffee Have as an example of some common traits that long-lasting open mics share. Visit

#5: LAugh Support Strikes Back: As if that wasn’t enough, the eBook section features LAugh Support Strikes Back, which takes all the articles I didn’t write for HeyLady, organizes them by category and packages them in a nice free eBook that you can download with one quick. You can also find an exe version of LAugh Support there that preserves the newsletter in its original state. In that version you will find new tie in articles, quizzes and a January 2008 issue that researches Second City in depth. That issue includes an interview with former HeyLady webmaster Rob Twohy on what it was like to graduate from Second City. You will also find a comedy writer’s workbook that was created out of old exercises built into old articles. Visit

#6: The Improved Comedy Class Database: The improved class database has much more information about the classes including cost, location, website, the length and a more detailed description of the class. Unlike before, there is also a database of improve comedy classes as well. Visit

#7: The Switch Board: The switchboard allows comics to submit and describe a link without having to submit their entire biography. It was created to allow comics to promote their sites, improve the Google PR, without duplicating information that might already be readily available at their own site. Visit

#8: The Forums: Yes I said there would never be a forum here. I don’t like the thought of comics using this site to wine about things. The site is still meant for proactive comics that want to improve. However, a message board could add to that, assuming someone’s willing to censor stupid unproductive comments that do nothing but drive board members away. Well, unlike other webmasters, censorship doesn’t bother me. So as long as it’s a productive discussion about comedy, as opposed to someone treating the board like stage time, we’ll see where it leads. Visit

#9: The Comedian Biographies: On the top 100 comedians of all time page you will notice every comic, and every nominee has an onsite biography. This way you can study how the greatest comics of our time achieved the things they’ve achieved without leaving the site. Visit

#X: The Flyer Generator: Requires Internet Explorer Want to get people to your shows? Well maybe the flyer generator is what you need. Taken from the San Genarro flyer model, it allows you to generate a flyer for any venue in the database. Simply look for the pink link that says, L. Click that link and the venue’s address will be transferred to the flyer program. If you are using Internet Explorer, you will be able to generate a nice flyer and the save the HTML. Or, you can mail it to yourself and then mail it to potential audience members. Visit

#V: Business Cards/ Labels: Requires Internet Explorer This page allows you to create business cards, mailing labels and labels for things like audio cassettes, CDs, DVDs, and video cassettes all on the same page. It’s a recreation from heylady’s platinum membership program. Unlike the old version, this one is written entirely in PHP, so it should work for everyone with Internet Explorer. Visit

Well that’s everything that’s new. I hope you enjoy. I’m exhausted now. So excuse me while I go take a very long nap.
