Shayne-Michael.COM: Open Mic At The Eye Candy Cafe

The name is somewhat of a misnomer. This audio blog will include open mics from all over. What you need to understand though, is open mics represent works in progress. In each case, I'll share where it was recorded and why I shared it with you. I will not always be sharing the entire show, and shows a month old will be deleted to save space on the server. A good deal of these will be recorded at the Coffee Haven as I am usually there every Friday night, and the place usually gets a pretty decent crowd.

Nu Art Cafe: 04/04/2009: On the State Of Comedy

Recorded Saturday night at the Nu Art Cafe on 3rd and Temple this rant is about how comedy has sunk to the lowest common denominator and the term Laughs Per Minute is getting out of hand.

Coffee Haven: 04/10/2009: Teaching/ The Recession

The bit on teaching is a partially true story that did happen that day. As a lesson to comedians, the part of the bit I was afraid to bring up, which was true, got the biggest laugh. The time I spent on the recession was based in watching conservative talk shows. I was amazed what they considered a sign that Americans were suffering at work and what they considered to be a sign they weren't. You'll have to forgive the sound quality on this one. The recorder was hidden on the music stand, blocking the sound reception a little bit.

Nu Art Cafe: 04/18/2009: Woah Nelly

Powerless by Nelly Furtado was one of my favorite songs of the time. The album it was from was one of the best I heard from a musician's point of view. This clip is about why I was so disappointed by her follow up album. This is not the best recording, but it is basically what I wanted to say.

There's truth in this bit. The empty fortune cookie happened on the road somewhere in Montana. When it comes to the Lottery, the few times I have played I usually don't get a single number correct.

Coffee Haven: 05/01/2009: The Entire Coffee Haven Show

I always do the Cinco De Mayo bit when it approaches my birthday. This particular set was late at the Coffee Haven. I was unhappy with some of the newer material. But overall the delivery was good because I was on so late, I really didn't care who I impressed.

There really needs to be more truth in advertising these days. These sleazy advertisers always find a way to slither out of the promises they make to their customers.
